Here's one of my favorite albums, EGON BONDY'S HAPPY HEARTS CLUB BANNED from (then) CZECHOSLOVAKIAN poet and writer EGON BONDY and the group that evolved around him, THE PLASTIC PEOPLE OF THE UNIVERSE... This album was made from cassettes smuggled out of the country and a lot of the members were either in jail or hiding when this came out...
Beautiful music, they were very much influenced by FRANK ZAPPA, CAPTAIN BEEFHEART and THE VELVET UNDERGROUND... To me, like FELA KUTI and his music represented the fight against corrupt, cruel dictatorships in AFRICA, EGON BONDY and all those around him and the music and art they made represented the same fight but in EASTERN-EUROPE...
The album comes with a beautiful booklet full with newpaper clippings, art, poems and photo's and I'll include this booklet too...
The PLASTIC PEOPLE are still active...
